basically. his dog is mabostiff. and he was really sick and injured due to an encounter with the legendary for the respective game (miraidon & koraidon.) (which is also why he’s so hostile against said pokemon at the start of the game.) depending on which version you play (mother in scarlet, father in violet. both are the regions professor) one of his parents “left him” when he was a kid (sent themselves to the past/future and became an ai robot. but he didn’t know that until the final events of the main game.) and the other parent is just said to be an unknown coworker of the professors. so all he had was his mabostiff since he was like. 6.😭
and arven likes cooking ! so he sought out these magical herbs that were said to heal certain effects on pokemon so he could turn them into sandwiches (arven Really likes sandwiches.) to heal his dog, which is what he asks the progag to help him with 
and the herbs are protected by these gigantic pokemon known as titans that we have to defeat. he also constantly calls the protag “little bud” and it’s so CUTE😭😭😭
and the part where they get the final herb and his mabostiff is properly fully healed and gains back its original strength is super sweet too. it made me Sob the first time i played through it. he’s just so sweet and he’s great at cooking and loves animals (he specifically cooks and makes special food to heal sick pokemon🥹). what more could you ask for!!😍😍
and at the end of the main game penny nemona arven and the protag go down to this place called area zero to find arven’s parent. and then within about 20 minutes he realises his parent in fact didn’t leave him and died, and then has to watch us battle and defeat said parent right in front of him. and then he just goes back to trying to make recipes for pokemon days later??!?? bless his soul.
he’s also kind of clingy and possessive of the protag to some extent?? at the start of the game just as you set off for the little “treasure hunt” thingy (which is just. taking on the 3 paths) arven and nemona keep arguing about who the protag likes the most and wants to spend time with😭 he’s so cute and perfect and he makes me SICK

also ohhh the thing with how they found it injured and begged to keep it is almost Identical to a character called gladion from pokemon sun & moon and how he found an injured eevee with his little sister and begged his family to keep it, which eventually evolved to be his umbreon🥹 (he’s also sort of the owner / manager of his family’s own business. Ironic.) i love gladion and his family So much i feel like i had to mention that. sorry.
actually umbreon would probably be a good pairing for him considering those traits you mentioned!!! yeah.
(the clingy and protective part also kinda reminds me of ritsu LOL)
but hmmm. pokémon wise. i think the two i said before and umbreon are great matches. umbreon is a very protective pokèmon, it’s also known to be clingy with its trainer which. matches well. but also vaporeon is a Great fit too😭😭
galarian articuno i think would be a nice fit too. also since there seems to be a thing with rain. i feel like a water type is Definitely needed. maybe a dragonair or a froakie! i think froakie would be super cool

So at the start of the mainsto prologue there's this whole flashback with the protag & him as kids!! it's mentioned in the wiki that they're childhood friends. their story is so AUUHHHHHHHHHGGHGG it makes me ill. (each main cast has these things called "novels" that go deeper into their back story & lore!! I read kafka's (and his only.LMAO) and it made me Sob. i read his in one sitting and it took me 5?? hours?? SO worth it id read it all over again) going off track Ehem. the hospital thing. he basically few up sickly up until this successful major surgery. he was mostly confined in a hospital, that's where he met the protag (& their twin!!) no one would really talk to him as a kid since he was Always too smart/mature for his age, but Mr protag insisted on being friends anyway^_^ sweet. these twins loved to travel, so they told kafka a bunch of stories abt their travels n stuff, which is where he got his love for traveling. + their visits were this thing that he Looooved looking forward to since (there's this whole promise thing the protag makes with them that if kafka's surgery becomes a success, they'd travel together n that and the flashback scene is so 😭😭😭😭🩷🩷🩷 I hope they explode) (← also. he has a solo song titled amegayandara / when the rain stops. the lyrics makes me feel so ILL. it could help u understand more abt his character maybe 🥹🥹) did u know that the dog (named shumai. cutest name righttttt?) is his childhood pet?? he and the protag found it one day in the hospital injured when they were kids & they even Begged to keep it. the entire thing is mentioned in the novel and. ouuugghhh. if u want to know more abt him i super suggest reading the whole thing. it'll take up some time But. if u're interested 🥹🩷 I might spoil the entire thing if I keep this up LOLL. um. did u know my current bio is literally a line from the novel itself, To the protag? i hope they burn) uh. personality wise he's Smart. real smart, like his mother :] the HAMA tour thing that's pretty much the entire thing about the game is run by him!!! he had to make this huge risk of this rebuilding thing, so u can say he's definitely confident in himself! he can also be sassy(?) at time it's funny. he has a few iconic lines too 😭 it's also implied that he has feelings for the protag & can get clingy & rlly protective of him 😭😭 he pretty much has this beef with the protag's cousin, one of the main cast(who's actually just a pretty chill guy😭) for being really close with him too,,. i feel like I'm missing a bunch of important stuff but. it's Late and i might get my ass beat 😭😭😭😭 i also haveng read Most stories other than mainsto, a few side stories & kafka's novels so i am def missing out more stuff. so. ya.
